FTA to host Webinar on Strategies for Mitigating Climate Change for Transit Users

Published on: December 10, 2022

On Wednesday, December 14, FTA will co-host a webinar with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) on Transit, Climate Change, and Communities: Impact and Equity. Attend to learn more about how your climate action plan efforts can help mitigate climate change impacts and address equity. Registration for the 2 p.m. webinar is required.

The session is part of FTA’s Sustainable Transit for a Healthy Planet Challenge, which supports President Biden’s goal of achieving a 50-percent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from 2005 levels by 2030. The challenge encourages transit agencies to adopt strategies to reduce GHG emissions, such as creating climate action or sustainability plans, converting fleets to electric buses, or making facilities more energy efficient.

The effects of climate change affect transit users. Transit agencies can mitigate these impacts through actions like providing cool pavements, tree canopies, enhanced shelters and waiting areas, and efficient route planning all while enhancing equity.

FTA will continue to share resources and provide opportunities to engage with transit agencies on how the industry can achieve the Administration’s GHG emission reduction goals, as well as their own agency targets.
