Resources Available to Meet December 31, 2022 Agency Safety Plan Compliance Date

As part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law changes to the Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP) requirements:

• Transit agencies that receive Section 5307 funding and serve a large urbanized area (population of 200,000 or more) have until Saturday, December 31, 2022 to have their Safety Committee approve an update to the agency’s Agency Safety Plan (ASP).
• Transit agencies that serve a small urbanized area (population of fewer than 200,000) have until Saturday, December 31, 2022 to update their ASP in cooperation with frontline employee representatives.

• For more information on the requirements, please refer to the Dear Colleague Letter or the PTASP FAQs for Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Requirements.
• FTA published an ASP checklist for rail transit and one for bus transit to help transit agencies update their ASPs to comply with the new requirements. Both are available in the PTASP Technical Assistance Center (TAC) Resource Library.
• Transit agencies can submit updated ASPs for voluntary review by the PTASP TAC. Send your draft plan to PTASP-TAC@dot.gov.

Add Your ASP to the ASP Directory

The FTA ASP Directory hosts more than thirty ASPs, illustrating the various ways agencies throughout the transit industry are implementing PTASP requirements. To add your ASP to the ASP Directory, please contact PTASP-TAC@dot.gov with a link to your ASP on your agency website or a PDF copy to upload to the ASP Directory.
